Delighting in Obedience – Made to Crave – Week 3

psalm-86_11-12

Every morning for years now I have jumped out of bed, let the dog out, washed my face, made the bed and headed to the scale to weigh looking and hoping the numbers are down.  I can get on them one morning and they are down, and then the next morning they are up -so it is frustrating.  How do I stop worrying about the numbers?

This week in the Made to Crave Study, Lysa TerKeurst talked about how it’s “not about the numbers.”  REALLY, FINALLY this week it clicked and  I understand that.    I love this, I really do that I am not defined by numbers, and I was made for MORE.  I am a daughter of The King of Kings – King Jesus!  No more lies from the enemy about how fat I am, how I failed today, no more worries about a number going up on the scales, no more guilt if I cheat one meal or eat an unhealthy snack because I can control my cravings.  It is about my obedience.  It’s about taking care of the temple.  Yes I have heard about taking care of the temple my whole life, but I haven’t done it.

In Chapter 8  Lysa moved on to tell us “the body God has given me is good.  It’s not perfect, nor will it ever be.  But it is a gift for which I am thankful.”  Are you thankful for your body?   If not, it is time you pick up this book.  For me I am at PEACE with my body as it is today and look forward to a new creation because of Him and my obedience.

Lysa goes on to say “eating healthy and exercising get our bodies in better shape, but we are never supposed to get the satisfaction our souls desire from our looks”.  OUCH and OUCH!  Did she really say that?  It’s true so why is it we spend so much time on our looks?

And in Chapter 9 we talked about how exercising can make you cry.  Well, at least it can some of us.   Do you love exercising?  I DO NOT and I don’t think I ever will, but these past few weeks I am walking to videos, walking on the treadmill, planking and squatting and jogging in place.  I wear my pedometer and I strive for 10,000 steps a day.  Today I put on worship music and I actually enjoyed all my exercising.  I really did.  It was awesome listening to music and doing sixty squats.

I am ready to delight in obedience to Him – planning healthy meals, healthy snacks and exercise.  I want to honor Him through my obedience.

I think that chapter 7 is my favorite chapter in the whole book. I too spent far to many mornings lamenting the numbers on the scale, and it has been so freeing to find that they aren’t what matter the most! While it’s lovely when they go down, it’s all about how obedient I was that week!

Thanks for reading Lina. I think that chapter resonated with every one of us, but honestly all of the chapters have pricked my heart these three weeks.

Awesome blog Debbie. I know the numbers on the scale can be defeating as they go down one day and up another day. So glad we are more than the number on the scale. Being obedient to God is the goal. Blessings as you continue on your journey.

Love that scripture, Debbie! I agree that when we focus on obedience to the King, everything else seems to fall into place. Beth- Facebook group 30
