40 Days of LENT – Taking Something Up, Giving Something Up Progress

I have enjoyed learning about LENT this year and taking up.  I thought I would go back and review what I wrote here, and see how I am progressing.  Let me tell you, you are going to see a whole lot of I’s, and that is okay because it is because of Him I have grown and wanted to learn more about this special season.  It’s all about Him.

My husband and I have enjoyed lightening loads mostly by helping with our two grandsons.  It’s been a joy, but we would be doing that even if it was not LENT, which is what we should always be doing in those other categories.  The older one loves bird watching with us and he enjoyed his weekend with us on one of our snow days.  The little one is only seven weeks old and so cuddly.  How do you like his little Nemo picture when I went with he and his mom for his first doctor’s visit because she could not drive yet.

I have called and texted people – family and friends I haven’t talked to in a long time.

I have done well on sending notes –  thank you notes, notes of encouragement, thinking of you notes, get well notes, and several birthday cards and gifts including one for our Compassion child. We have been to the Post Office three times now. I I just finished writing an old friend that I worked with so many years ago – yes it was an actual hand-written note.  I included a planner in one note from a previous drawing and when her name was the one drawn it was exciting.

I have at least once that I know of told someone about Jesus, but pray daily that others know Jesus because I blog hoping to make Him known.  One lady wrote back to me that she did not know Him.  I pray she will.   We also pray for our Compassion Child to know Jesus.  Here is a card we received with to prompt us to pray that she will know Him.  Where else would I hang it but on the side of the refrigerator to pray for her along with pictures of the kids and grandkids who we also pray for every single day.

Yes, we have bought lunch numerous times mostly for the kids just because we CAN!

We didn’t get to a hospital, but we did get out-of-town to visit my husband’s aunt who was dying.

It has been easy to spend time with family – our son, daughter-in-love, daughter and son-in-law and the grandkids.  We also made time when we drove out-of-town for a funeral visitation.  When it was over, it was late, but we stayed and had dinner with our Oklahoma cousins and uncle and our Texas aunt and uncle.  We also drove our mother-in-law down several weeks ago to spend time with her sister who was dying of cancer spending time with them and an uncle and cousin.  I’ve had lunch with both the girls and my husband is out fishing today with our son.

It has also been easy to say “thank you” when I am out and about.  It always has been, but I find myself working on that even harder.

The exercising has also been easier for me.  I’ve been putting on these 10 CDs for 20 min a day and also jumping on the treadmill for 10-20 min a day.  Doubling up here because I need to.

Looking out your window and find something of beauty.  Oh wow how we have done that these last few weeks with the snow and ice, and doing it with Colt has added so much more fun.  He runs over to the window and wants us to pull up the blinds and he is only 19 months old.  We pulled in the driveway last Saturday and some blue birds were in our yard.  It was our first time to see them up close.

I have been able to find one thing to clean and organize, and donate.  I cleaned my desk, my computer table, my laundry room, my television console.  Today I got out a Spring tablecloth and also hung this cute little picture in my laundry room.  I wanted a reminder every time I walk in there to praise the Lord, rather than dread laundry.

We are helping strangers oftentimes we don’t even realize it.  We’ve been carrying our papers to our church for our youth the last few months – most of which we don’t know.

I went to get my hair cut the other day, and stopped and picked up a drink for me and my beauty operator. She loved it.  I really need to work on this one the next few weeks as I am out and about.

  1. Hi, Debbie. I enjoyed reading about all the things you are setting your focus on. It is great to be a blessing for others. As of right now I am rather house bond. We own one car and my dear husband uses it everyday. Thus I don’t go far daily. I believe that is part of God’s plan for me to keep at my cleaning, purging and donating. I actually posted before pics on my blog. http://wittoknit.blogspot.com. I cleaned one small part of my craft space (in my bedroom) yesterday, but no picture for that yet. I will take it later and post it. God Bless you.

    1. Hey sweet friend. hope you are doing well. Just hopped over to your blog. You are in to lots of hobbies. Sorry you are home bound but know God has a plan. I, too, have been trying to get things done around here when I get to be home – choosing one simple project a day, but days like yesterday I got three done and one was a dreaded shelf in the kitchen.
