Yesterday I wrote about a Bible study we are going through at church called, The Battle Plan for Prayer. You can read about that here and other Bible studies I have been doing on-line. Love, love, love on-line Bible studies because they work with my schedule, and I don’t have to go anywhere to do them. You can also read about them on yesterday’s post and how to join.
So I’m learning about prayer and honestly there was so much Sunday night I learned from the preacher, the video, and the audience and then our prayer groups together that I just am amazed sometimes of how old I am, and how much I do not know still.
Here are a few nuggets I gleaned in week 1, and that was only the tip of the iceberg. I tell you I have read these verses for years and years, I have gone through a study of John, and still these verses blew me away as we went over them again Sunday night. I shall not soon forget them this time as they are highlighted and underlined in my Bible:
John 14:13 – “And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
John 15:7-9 – “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
John 16:23-24 – “In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
I love that coffee cup up there and since I was writing today about prayer I chose it this morning instead of my Fall coffee cups. Don’t you love it?
Some things I have learned through the years include acronymns. One of them is PRAY.
PRAY-Praise, Repent, Ask for others, Ask for You
I looked up some scriptures to go along with that acronym.
PRAISE – Psalm 150:6 (NIV) – Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD. Let’s praise Him with His holy name. Some of His names are Abba, Father, Savior, El Shaddai, etc.. If you want to know more about names you can read my blog here, here and here.
REPENTANCE – 1 John 1:9 (ESV) – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
ASK for others – JAMES 5:16 (ESV) -Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working
YOU – Ask for you – Phillippians 4:6-7 (ESV) – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
A – Adoration – Praise God for His attributes
C – Confession – Naming our sins and asking for forgiveness
T- Thanksgiving for what God has done and is doing
S – Supplication of our needs and others needs
PUSH – Pray Until Something Happens
Just another verse I read today that I love and goes along with that cup. ” My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” PSALM 27:8 (NLT)
