Love, One word

My One Word 2018 – Love

HELLO 2018.  Tell me please where 2017 went.  It flew by with so many blessings this past year.  I just pray 2018 is as good.  We had three new grand babies – yes three born in March – twins boys and a girl.  Today I received some bad news from my doctor’s office, but praying for some good follow-up results.  Satan wants to steal our joy and I’ve been so full of it lately.

What is one word?  It’s one word for the year instead of a resolution.  I used to start the new year with a resolution and well, you know, by February I had failed.  Several years ago I started choosing one word, and it’s worked well for me.  In 2017  my word was “Intentional“, in 2016 “Savor“, in 2015 it was “Focus“, 2014 was “Simplify” and my first one word in 2013 was “Less“.

Reflecting back on last years word – intentional.  I reflect back as I wrote “oh come let us ADORE Him as we live intentional.”  I truly believe I was able to reflect that in all I did at home, at school, and church with friends, family, Bible study, prayer, cleaning, health, blogging and teaching.  My verse last year reminded me each day to do things heartily.

My one word never comes easy.  I’ve prayed about it, and as usual it did not come easy.  For awhile I thought it would be DELIGHT, but that just does not fit, and then a couple of days this week because of things that were happening I thought maybe it should be joy.

I’m starting a new on-line Bible study in January called I Am Loved by Wendy Blight and  think with that study, and knowing how much more I grow in love with my Savior and people each day that this will be a perfect fit so I’ve chosen LOVE as my one word this year.  It was funny.  I took a test on Facebook last night to choose a word and it came out Love.  Perfect confirmation from my Lord.

I found a quote for the year:

“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”  Maya Angelou

My Bible verse for the year:

I believe the Bible can be summed up to this one word – love.  It’s what Jesus taught.

The Bible is His love letter to you and me!

The two greatest commandments in the Bible are love God and thy neighbor.

I am excited to see where this one word takes me this year. 365 new days, 365 new opportunities.  365 days to love my Lord,  myself and others in all I do.

Have you chosen a word yet?  I’d love for you to share.

Would love for you to join me in I Am Loved.  Signed up here.  All you need is your book and you can pick that up at most Christian book stores or Proverbs 31.Org.

That picture at the top is Colt’s feet print he and Whitney made for me on Mother’s Day two years ago.  Love it.

  1. Congrats on the new grand babies last year, Debbie! I’m expecting my first this month and couldn’t be more excited. 🙂 Your One Word is a beautiful choice. I’m choosing Mystery (as in Embracing Mystery). I need to let go of my “need to know” and just relax and trust God’s sovereignty instead.

    1. Lisa it is so hard to explain how amazing a grandchild is. Congratulations. Love that word and never heard that one used.

  2. Hi Debbie and blessings in 2018. I never thought about picking a word. Hmmmmm. I do think I need to pray on it because I’m coming up with a slew of words! Maybe FOCUS should be my word. Thanks for the challenge and sharing. You inspire me. Praying for your health and so glad we connected!!

      1. I have them hanging in my kitchen. There is a real miracle story on his footprints. Born with a horrible disease, didn’t know if he would ever walk or crawl BUT God – He is a walking miracle and so smart.

    1. Thanks Char. Focus is a great one. I did that one two years ago. It really does keep you on track.

So glad to find your blog. It’s beautiful. Yes, keep me in your prayers. I need them. Haven’t shared with many – just our kids and your blog and one friend.

  3. Debbie, I think I started to comment earlier today, but I got distracted and my words were erased. So, let me try again. What a powerful word you have to meditate on this year!

I am sorry to hear that you received bad news. I’ll be praying for you tonight. And three grands? What a beautiful trio of gifts you received last March!

I guess I didn’t realize you and I shared the same One Word last year. Intentional was an impacting word in my life. It sounds like the same is true for you. What an impacting focus you had for Intentional: To Adore Jesus. You are inspiring.

    1. Thanks Jeanne. Oh those distractions. I’ve done that too. Thank you for your prayers. I’ll know more on Tuesday.

Intentional impacted me too, and I think it will continue along with the word love this year.

  4. I always choose a word for the year, too, and this year, my word is Transparent. I love your word and you can never go wrong with Love. I was on the I Am Loved launch team and you are going to love this study! It’s truly life changing! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful post on my Counting Our Blessings linkup! It blessed me and I know it will bless others! Happy New Year!

    1. Michelle they are. It is so hard to believe how special. We are so blessed ours all live nearby. I picked up the four and two year old today and took them to the movies. Cousins had so much fun, but not as much as I did.

  5. Hi Debby! I’m loving the feet-prints, touched by your faithfulness in living out those One Word intentions. I tried it for two years and they never went further than a blog post or two.

I’m moving ahead, holding my hands up, trying not to grasp but to remain open to what God is trying to say.

    He’s been so faithful, hasn’t He …

Praying for you right now and the concerns you have. He is able. Bless you …

  7. Debbie, I’m sorry for your disquieting news from the doctor’s office. Will pray. ((Hug)) — Such a sweet word of the year. I think I’ve chosen mine, but am still praying on it. Happy New Year! Visiting you from Kelli’s place today. 🙂

  8. Good post and word for the year, Debbie. Never thought about it before but the Bible can be summed up in one word…love. It’s the core of who God is and His “love” letter to us in Scripture. Oh, how great is the love of the Father. Blessings.

    1. Sandra I love him too. I actually have a family of three that say “Love, Joy and Peace.” I bought several sets to give my sisters for Christmas and I had to have two sets for myself.

      1. Did you buy them recently? If so would you mind telling me where? I would love to have a set? Especially since Joy was my One Word last year and Peace is my One Word this year.

  9. Well, you certainly can’t go wrong with the word LOVE! I’m certain God’s got some beautiful things in store for you this year!

My word is ABIDE….excited and a little nervous to see how God uses it!

  10. It’s taken me a couple of years to get into the one-word thing. Believe it or not, I actually would forget the word. One little word! Last year I chose peace and as this year arrived I decided it isn’t finished with me. There’s more to it I need to live with so I’m keeping it another year. Thanks for prompting this conversation.

    1. Debby I’ve considered doing one of my words for two years. I didn’t forget it. I just felt like God was finished with that area yet.
