Proverbs 14:13 (NLT) Laughter can conceal a heavy heart, but when the laughter ends, the grief remains.

Sometimes a person’s heart is heavy and they are concealing it.  That grief is there even when they stop laughing.  Sometimes we can be going through the pain of a death, but at the same time there is joy and celebration with a birth, and they are both happening at once.  Sometimes we are experiencing the joy of a birth, and dealing with the pain of the baby being born with serious medical conditions.  Sometimes the hurt can be masked behind that smile.

Many people are laughing on the outside, but crying and hurting on the inside.  I need to be a woman who cares enough and empathizes enough to discern others are hurting even though they don’t show it or share it.   When I ask how are you feeling, I need to really mean it.   I need to be a person who cares and listens and understands the hurts and frustrations that others are carrying around.  We all need to be honest in our feelings – laughing joyfully when it’s time to laugh, crying hard when it’s time to cry.  Cherish the joy.  Don’t let anyone or anything steal the joy of your Savior.  There will be tears and there will be joy.  Laughter and heartache do co-exist at times, but we should always be joyful because He lives.

Lord my I be a person who has open arms, a shoulder to cry on and an ear to hear to those whose hearts are heavy.  In your name I pray.  AMEN!
